A GOOFY MOVIE → yeasayer ; ambling alp
you must stick up for yourself son / nevermind what anybody else done

in this live action remake of an underrated disney classic, ty burrell plays george goolsby, a well-intentioned but embarrassing single father to max goolsby, played by joe gilgun, an insecure and lovestruck teenager obsessed with being cool. in an effort to get closer to his son, george plans an impromptu summer road trip for the pair, disrupting max’s own plots to woo his crush roxanne. max, resentful of being dragged away, tries everything to get away just as desperately as george holds on. whether or not the two make it to their destination remains up in the air as they run into a slew of unexpected things on their journey, making it a memorable one indeed.

SIBLING RIVALRY → jump 5 ; welcome
we’re here to share it all / welcome to our family

the year 2003 was a big one for jacob michalski (levi) and eric logan (james). never having gotten along, their senior year of high school meant it was their last chance to outdo the other and prove who was best. jacob got class valedictorian. eric got captain of the football team. what neither of them got was prom king. now, eight years later, their sisters, phoebe michalski (scodelario) and samantha logan (agron) find themselves in their senior year of school and both with nominations for prom queen. neither care much for the crown — but news of the nominations spark their older brothers’ interest and the two begin rigorous campaigning against each other in a bid for their sisters to win — and to one up the other once and for all.

PUSHING LUCK → yael naim ; new soul
i’m a new soul / i came to this strange world / hoping i could learn a bit about how to give and take / this is a happy end / cause you don’t understand / everything you have done / why’s everything so wrong? / this is a happy end / come and give me your hand / i’ll take you far away

you can only live in a safe place, in a safe apartment, with a safe job, driving a safe car for so long before you start to realize you have never taken a risk. for amir desai (patel), that realization was not so much an epiphany but a budding notion constantly bubbling beneath the surface, spurred on constantly by dull facebook scrolling at work, passing by endless statuses and albums about extravagant places and things that he has never seen or done. when someone in his same position at work, with much less experience, gets a promotion before he does, amir decides he has had it, and quits his job in a spur of the moment decision (the first he can recall making since his first lunch on the job where he decided to get blue cheese instead of parmesan — that didn’t end well). the spontaneity doesn’t end there: amir has had it letting life pass him by and watching everyone else do all the things he wants to do. jobless and with nothing to lose, he decides he is going to use his savings to move. move out of providence, out of rhode island, out of the united states and away from everything that could remind him of the mundane life he has led thus far. the location comes easily to him: ireland, land of four leaf clovers and pots of gold — in other words, more luck than amir has ever had home in the ocean state. when he lands on dublin soil, he finds himself without a plan for the first time ever. panicking, he checks into the first bed and breakfast he finds, owned by two young twins named rory and moira gallagher (badgley and mcgrath) who inherited the property from their deceased parents. the two help keep amir from staying shut in his room, encouraging him to actually dive in if he’s going to take a plunge like the one he has taken, and though it takes a while, he eventually stops holing himself up in his room to mingle with the other people staying at the bed and breakfast. this is how he meets aine brennan (bell), a fiery girl with a sharp tongue, hailing from belfast, though she won’t give any more details other than she’s in dublin on a business trip. the two form a bond; aine, impressed by amir’s rash decision making and amir, intrigued by aine’s mysterious demeanor and a slight suspicion that there is something she is hiding. feeling like he has a genuine goal for the first time in a long while, amir focuses on getting to know aine and the real reason why she’s there, the confines of the bed and breakfast bringing them closer together.
